Texas State Capitol Texas is called the “Lone Star State” in recognition of its brief history as an independent republic. It is the second largest state in the United States, and its culture is an interesting combination of urban and country. It is not unusual to see businessmen in cowboy hats and boots.

Austin is called the “Live Music Capital of the World” and has nearly 200 performance venues. Austin is also the site of the University of Texas, and there are 50+ other colleges and universities in the area.

Dallas has all the amenities of a large city, including the largest continuous urban arts district in the United States, and six professional sports teams.

Houston is a port city and is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States. Houston offers opera, ballet, theater, and symphony performances year-round.

San Antonio is full of historic attractions, including the famous Alamo, which was one of the city’s five Spanish missions. Popular activities here include playing golf and attending equestrian events.
