About

Virginia

Virginia State Capitol

Virginia is one of the oldest states in the nation. It was the site of some of the first successful British colonies, and its state legislature is the oldest in the nation. Virginia has diverse topography, including the Appalachian Mountains in the west and the coastline and Chesapeake Bay on the east. Virginia is a cultural blend of Southern hospitality and Northern industry.

Richmond is the capital of Virginia and offers something for everyone, including sports, art, nature, city life, and history. Civil War history is documented at many museum exhibits, festivals, and guided tours, and there are many different examples of historic architecture preserved throughout the city. Several universities have campuses in Richmond, including Virginia Commonwealth University.

Norfolk and Virginia Beach are located on the eastern coast of Virginia. This area, called the Hampton Roads region, is well-known as one of the first continuously English-speaking colonies in America. Virginia Beach has 29 miles (46.4 km) of white sandy beaches and a large paved boardwalk with free events year-round. Norfolk is a bustling port city, and large ocean liners frequently dock here. Battleship tours are available through the Hampton Roads Naval Museum.

Virginia real estate includes many stately homes in historic neighborhoods, along with oceanfront properties, mountain retreats, upscale suburban developments, urban townhouses and condominiums, and more.
